The NBC5056 Weather Station is designed for military applications requiring Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) contamination and decontamination survivability. The NBC5056 is a compact, self-contained, automatic station with no moving parts. The weather sensors and data acquisition computer are all contained in a single unit that is easy to install. The NBC5056 reports wind speed and direction, temperature, barometric pressure, and relative humidity. Additional external sensors can be added through an expansion input. This station is ideal for the harsh environments found on military armored tanks and reconnaissance vehicles with severe motion, shock, impact and vibration.
Unique to the NBC5056 is its patented Thermal Field Variation technique for measuring wind speed and direction. The station detects thermal field changes caused by wind passing by a heated cylinder. It is the high technology equivalent to the traditional rifleman’s wet finger held to the wind. The NBC5056 is very accurate, responds rapidly to wind changes, and has zero starting threshold. There are no bearings or potentiometers to corrode or wear out, and the station is not effected by snow or ice. The TFV technique overcomes the problems exhibited by hot-film and ultrasound anemometers during extreme weather or when airbrone fibers, dust, or exhaust are present. The NBC5056 has demonstrated its reliability and performance on militry tanks, NBC reconnaissance vehicles, naval ships, and marine oil platforms.
The NBC5056 ia a militry qualified meteorological system. All components are enclosed in an NBC survuvable, sealed, submersible housing. The package contains a computer for determining weather parameters, performing self-diagnostic tests, and transmitting data and status information. The NBC5056 ia capable of communication over wire-line, radio telemetry, or multi-point network via its serial digital RS-422 outputs.
